The Lynx proposal is another Greenie land grab. The Lynx is a vehicle, not a beneficiary. The Lynx is to northern States what the Ivory-billed Woodpecker is to Arkansas - a boondoggle for Tree-Hugger organizations to grab huge amounts of government money to buy huge acreages of land using the excuse that driving people away will benefit an obscure critter that doesn’t even live there. The proposed 18,000 square miles is just a start. Tree-Huggers plan to extend the Lynx reserve to an area approaching the size of Europe.

Well are there nesting warblers in these areas? What other neotropical migrants live in these areas. While as birders we value birding habitat, the general populace may find it harder to appreciate tiny colorful birds that are difficult to see. And they sure don't appreciate the snail darter either, or native brook trout versus rainbow stockies. I can't condone outright fraudulent claims of species that aren't there, but the Lynx does exist.
What is a greenie? A greenie is a person who says... the biggest money holders of the age still don't have carte blanche to cut down all the trees, or remove all the habitat. Ever flown over the south in a jet? How about the Midwest? Not much in the way of woods, is there? What right does today's money have to destroy important habitat for all future generations? There's not really so much forest out there to begin with. European towns have greenspace, American towns have
shopping malls. Are the "greenies" here really so out of hand?

Actually Lynx and snowshoe hare are the predator-prey pair.
There's lot's of mountains here in the NorthEast. Snowshoe hare are here in the Catkills, and there is a documented population of Lynx in NW Maine. I'd probably prefer Bobcat in my backyard over Lynx, I'm not that radical... but I know the lumbering industry has many interests in Maine, which has some of the largest forests in the country outside of Alaska.
Yet you could probably still chant: Long live the Lynx, long live the Cape May Warbler.. and not be too far off your rocker or off base.

For the record, let me state that I am one of the most hard core environmentalists that I know. I deeply dislike and distrust large corporations and if I had my way there would be no new development in this country anywhere.
I even advocate that some areas of wilderness be kept off limits to the public BY THE PUBLIC for extended periods of time, simply to keep them as undisturbed as possible.
The IBWO debacle is not about whether the cause of environmentalism is "right" or "wrong," it's whether LYING and WILLFUL SELF-DELUSION about animals serves environmentalism in the long run.
Well said, Amy. In fact, very well said.
Well Amy, if that's the case, I don't suppose you're a member of the Sierra Club.
Whatever club Amy belongs too I'd like to join
