The Discovery Channel gives that ubiquitous AP story (female IBWO allegedly swoops behind a truck) this headline: "Ivory-Billed Sightings Piling Up".
They also include this picture, with a caption including this text:
People in the region report spotting the bird nearly every day.

The opening line on page one of the story is:
"Kip Davis and Jay Robison saw what they believed was an ivory-billed woodpecker on Thursday, one of thousands of reported sightings piling up as leaves in an east Arkansas swamp drift down."
This is so out there, I don't even know how to respond.
"The search is on," (Connie) Bruce (of CLO) said. "This is very important to us. We all want to locate this bird."
Well at least THAT's true!
Here's a question for everybody. Do you think true panic has set in at CLO yet? If not, do you think it will set in after this field season? Or do you think that they're dug in as true believers and will never give up?
Have the locals finally figured out that they better start pouring gas on the fire before it dies out? Or, is it just a continuation of mass hysteria? [I remember Leslie Peacock saying "what mass hysteria?" What do you call thousands of sightings, Leslie?] Regardless, this must be a conundrum for CLO. On the one hand they want to encourage people and get PR, so they can't come down too hard on these nuts and bozos. But, on the other hand, if they let this continue without criticism then they must realize that thousands of reports does serious damage to CLO's credibility, especially regarding why they can't come up with "proof of life."

But according to Fitzpatrick, as immortalized by Tom here, the video is proof of life. (Sounds like he needs to recognize who are his betters when it comes to field ID.)

True panic? As opposed to what? Fraudulent panic?
"Piling" up is an appropriate choice of words, as I'm sure Amy will agree
