Odd crows

Wow. Amazing mutants. It does boggle the mind how some of them managed to survive to adulthood!

My favorite example of such a mutant was a wild-collected adult frog with its eyes inverted in its skull so that they were posititioned INSIDE ITS MOUTH (the frog could not see if its mouth was closed).

Amazing.

Even more amazing is that the frog made one of the few IBWO sightings in the 1960s that most True Believers have faith in. Shows why an open mouth can be just as important as an open mind when it comes to looking for IBWO.

Did I se one of these white-primaried-and-secondaried crows in a four second video from the Cache River in Arkansas last year? How do we know that the large white-winged birds in flight that are being reported as IBWO are even woodpeckers? There was one of the Hill sightings that I couldn't even tell from the description that it wasn't a cormorant or anhinga. I've seen crows mis-IDed as Little Blue Herons, why not IBWOs?

I'd bet on a male anhinga

Fishcrow tells us how woodpeckers, and especially IBWOs, are almost as or as intellligent as corvids. Well, I guess the corvids on this site weren't all that intelligent..... Maybe crows and other corvids need to go through an intelligence-heightening bottleneck!
