I find it somewhat amusing that the only bird pictured in the trip report is misidentified. The so called Brewer's Blackbird is actually a Rusty Blackbird.
Oh well. More expert birders afield...
Hey, everybody knows that you aren't going to find any IBWO if you are putting out negative vibes about the poor quality habitat and the noisy human activity in the area. You have to have FAITH.
Actually, the habitat looks great to me (I mean, there are TREES in the photos) and we KNOW the IBWOS are in the area, right? So, it must have been the red canoe and the red shirt(s).
At last an account of an IBWO search that is not full of gushing (Birdchick), delusion (Fishcrow), naiveté (Hillcrow) or hubris and greed (Fitzcrow).
These guys just went out to see if they could see an IBWO, they couldn't and they said so. Unlike those on lifelong quests they didn't try to make a random unidentifiable bird or noise into an IBWO. They also have habitat assessment techniques that Fishcrow might want to copy.
aaah....to travel up the river and watch the sun in sanguine splendor set whilst silently sneaking up on an IBWP........

There have been quite a few real birders looking in the Choctawhatchee this fall/winter. Some just don't blog about it. But everyone that I've heard about has had the same success (or lack thereof). Just like in the past 40 years. Follow-ups bring nothing.

What for? I didn't hear of any good bird sightings from there. They should have gone to South end of Salton Sea for the Ross'
