Movie or no movie, only the Skeptics have been correct so far. If everytime someone announced a sighting of IBWO, you had shouted "bullsh*t" as the Skeptics have done then you would have been right. Every time!
As for Collinson, he is a mere hanger on. He's not a skeptic. He wants only to get some fame from debunking an already debunked Luneau video.
We, Skeptics, have been too correct for too long to now embrace a charlatan such as Collinson at this late stage .
George Butler's reputation is now sullied. Who will be next? How many people will fall on their own spears for this ridiculous extinct bird.
I don't think its fair to call Dr. Collinson a charlatan. This unnecessary rudeness merely confirms the general distrust of skeptics.
His belated and somewhat redundant critique of the video may be too little too late, but is still helpful, given that the CLO still sees no reason whatsoever to question the Luneau video. If only his comments on the sightings in the paper were as critical as those in his blog he could have made a wholly useful, if minor, contribution to the debate.
For the record, I never expected Dr. Collinson to fight any battles for skeptics, but did expect better correspondence between his published statements on the sightings and the more critical unpublished views expressed on his blog.
If Butler is smart, then he'll adjust his documentary into a case history about how poor ID skills and an accidental video taken by a canoe coincidentally trigger mass hysteria, bad science, ego-boosting, self-promotion, self-serving agendas, and deception and manipulation of the public, NGO's, and the government, compounded by government mismanagement and long term damage to conservation and Endangered Species recovery programs. Then it would be a box office smash!

I agree completely with what ibwo atheist said.
Come on, ibwo atheist, at least live up to your name. Collinson is a weak-kneed flack who got cold feet as he wrote his paper.
He really added nothing to the arguments. We had already seen videos of the butt end of a Pileated.
The Luneau video is a joke. It should be treated as such. On May 31, Hillcrow will have zilch. And the whole world will know it.
Then Butlercrow's so called movie will have to feature the triumph of the Skeptics. Then in Fall 2008, PD will have to pay up.
Life doesn't get any better than this.
