Yes, Mr. Archdeacon, but you have to admit that the fascination with seeing grown men in positions of authority in ornithology departments in all parts of the country making fools of themselves is difficult to ignore.

Sort of like a car wreck. It's hard to turn away.

CONNER WROTE, "...with the last known sighting 60 years ago....[Luneau's] bird in question could have been mistaken for the more common pileated woodpecker....many birders in Arkansas and Florida were bitter for having their hopes
raised.
IS AUTHOR CONNER ONE OF US? ...no other woodpecker...makes a double knock like the Ivory-billed Woodpecker, in North America," Rendell says. "The first note is very low and fast, and the second carries out for a longer period of time." HUH? I [Rendell] will visit these listening stations to...recover memory cards...and then we...send it [the audio] by email...to Mennill's...lab..." Rendell says. EMAIL? "Dan has...a way to reproduce double knocks...with certain types of sticks and logs," Rendell says.... BETTER THAN DRUM STICKS? ...Until recently though, the team has not used this method....if evidence is found at a listening station, researchers will...reproduce the sound to try to coax an appearance. WHY DO MY EYEBROWS HURT? ...in Arkansas, many people flocked there ...not knowing that they could have been...causing them [the ivory-bills] to vanish. OR IS CONNER A BELIEVER?

Conner is just another poor slob whose reputation will crash upon the rocks of Ivory-billed turddom.
