“The Austin chapter is thrilled to get Mr. Harrison for the Oak Savanna Bird Festival as only five people have reported seeing this impressive bird,”said Terry Dorsey, president. “The fact that Mr. Harrison has seen it on five separate occasions makes it even more certain that the ivory-billed woodpecker is not extinct, but can be found in specialized habitat and there is some hope for recovery.”

In all likelihood, more than 5 people probably reported seeing it in the last hour and more than 5 people probably reported seeing it in Sapsucker Woods. 5 doesn't even include Guthcrow.
"Prices are $8 for adults and $5 for high school-age and younger.
Seating is limited in the auditorium...."
Obscene prices for tickets to view the decomposing remnants of the train wreck that was the "IBWO rediscovery".
But do note that seating is limited - to the naive and delusional. All people entering the talk will be searched to prevent any unlawful possession of rationality at the venue.
I believe that most birders who have followed this story have given up hope, but I think many members of the public in general don't even know there is a skeptical point of view. You don't see banquets for skeptics, or NPR stories on the debunking of the myth.
There's an old saying in Minnesota -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Minnesota -- that says, fool me once, shame on.... shame on you........?
You fool me; you can't get fooled again.
Who says Bushism aren't apropos to these fools?
.....the ivory-billed woodpecker is not extinct, but can be found in specialized habitat
such as the mis-firing synapses of the hopelessly delusional
and there is some hope for recovery
well, lobotomy maybe, or there are some very effective psychopharmacological agents in clinical use nowadays
Hmmmm.....one guy sees it five times.......kind of like one guy seeing Napoleon Bonaparte five times.
My God!....It's two thousand *friggin* seven!!!
Not a feather, shell, photo, or anything solid.....three years!!
and I STILL see statements, such as (and I paraphrase).............."this was near the area where (_______) saw a female IBWO last fall.
Gosh!!....that's good enough for me!
How 'bout it Science? We might as well start describing the Arkansas IBWO as a different subspecies from the Florida IBWO.....we have sooo much evidence.
