...The Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge is located in the upper basin of the Tensas River in northeast Louisiana. The area is the last documented home of the ivory-billed woodpecker, federally listed as endangered...Aren't we supposed to believe that the IBWO was documented in Arkansas a few years ago?

With a few notable exceptions, there's backpedaling all across the board.
This isn't going to die with a bang, but with a whimper.
Cornell NEVER claimed to have documented a "HOME" of the ivory bill - they only documented ONE bird. They further speculate that this bird was a lone male wandering - or perhaps near the end of its life.
So the press release is totally consistent with the findings and with the evidence. Cornell DOCUMENTED the bird. When are you skeptics going to accept that?
Great news! There's still hope.
I've gotten word that some second rate southern university will anounce many IBWO sightings, thus letting a well-known first rate university off the hook.
Oops, wait....that's already happened.

The anonymous True Believer quoted above is a bit behind the curve. Since Louis Bevier's website went up, leading TBs have abandoned the Luneau video and now place reliance on the alleged sightings by Kulivan, Hillcrow, Bobby H., Guthcrow, and countless others.
In fact, Cornell didn't "document" anything. Luneau filmed a Pileated Woodpecker. Cornell used a brief, "enhanced" excerpt from the video to persuade the elderly editor of Science Magazine to publish the "rediscovery" article. The complete, original video has never been produced.
With the prestigious Science citation in the bag, the CLO and their colleagues at TNC launched a well-conceived campaign to dazzle the mainstream media. Crisscrossing screen tours by Rohrcrow, Bobby H., Gallagher and others convinced Audubon, Smithsonian, and garden club members who have no contact with the birding elite.
However, the CLO have nothing to show for their massive search efforts but questionable tape recordings of mechanical noises. With the reported assistance of a public relations consultant, they are now trying to backpedal without conceding that their video evidence is incompetent. It will be as difficult as a male mantid escaping alive after mating.
