People Asked To Switch Off Lights For Earth Day - News Story - WEWS Cleveland
The city and the Sierra Club are asking businesses to turn off all unnecessary lights for one hour from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Residents are being asked to turn off lights at home from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Rich Fein with the local Sierra Club chapter said the program promotes the message that unnecessary lighting wastes energy and contributes to climate change.
Akron-based FirstEnergy has declined to participate. Power company spokesman Ralph DiNicola said turning off non-essential lights should be done all the time, not just for an hour.
