When many residents are making lifestyle changes to protect the climate, draconian rules could backfire.
Fireplaces for patios and backyards are becoming more common. We'd rather see those considered more carefully than to ban socializing around a beach fire.
It was a last stand for the U.S. Senate's shortsighted global-warming deniers, evaders and excusers. At a time when cities and citizens from Seattle to Miami are responding, 36 senators blocked a climate change measure.
For the sake of the environment, the economy and individual citizen health, we hope it's a final flop on the issue for Congress.
Republicans said they were worried that energy costs might rise (imagine) and the economy might somehow suffer. The hoax, or misplaced fretting, about the economy is an enduring one that has helped block transportation and environmental gains since at least four decades.
