"Much of the enthusiasm and ambition that we saw in Bali with the launch of negotiations doesn't seem to be present (anymore)," de Boer said, referring to a meeting on the Indonesian resort island in December. Then, some 190 countries decided on a timetable for talks on a new climate pact.
The meeting in Japan was intended to lay the foundations for the fight against global warming for the upcoming G8 Summit in Japan in July.
However, de Boer is not optimistic that a goal to forge a global warming pact by December 2009 to succeed the Kyoto Protocol will be realized. It's first phase was slated to end in 2012.
But the enthusiasm to save the planet has waned.
