New Zealand: Beer fridges 'bad for the nation'

Beer fridges 'bad for the nation' (+video) - News - Dominion Post
Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority monitoring and research manager Robert Tromop said with 1.8 fridges per household, many people had one fridge too many.

Most second fridges were inefficient, unnecessary and should be discarded, he said.

"I understand the emotive connection to beer fridges, but right now you're not helping yourself, you're not helping the country."

This isn't strictly about global warming. This is about a new Zealand government that has so badly mismanaged the energy security of the country that we're looking at rolling black-outs around the country this winter.

They're pushing for electricity savings, to save water in hydro lakes. In fact, they're running coal-fired power stations at full capacity at the moment, massively increasing CO2 emissions (and this from the government that pledged 'carbon neutrality', winning the prime minister a UN 'champion of the environment' award!
