Late July in Montreal: Massive snowbank still remains

Dirty snowbank stretches far into summer
The 4 million cubic metres of snow dumped on the Pullman site of the Turcot Yards this winter is still melting, but the cleanup is already in full swing.

Fifteen per cent of the snow, or roughly 250,000 cubic metres, is left on the site, said François Puchin, spokesperson for the Côte des Neiges/Notre Dame de Grâce borough.

The borough's public works department has spent four weeks cleaning the site, and it will take another four to six weeks to finish the job, Puchin said. The price tag for the cleanup is about $300,000, he added.

Fifteen per cent of the snow dumped on the Turcot Yards this winter is still there, and "all kinds of garbage" is emerging as it melts.

For two weeks in the spring, the department spread the snow so it would melt more quickly. Then, two weeks ago, workers returned to the site to begin the real job.
