Environmental Capital - WSJ.com : From Russia With Love: Could Georgia Fight Boost Global Energy Supply?
The biggest outcome of the Georgian conflict could be in the U.S., say a number of Caspian-watchers. To save face—and 15 years of Caspian energy diplomacy—Washington might have to seriously step up to the plate. That would mean redoubling support for Nabucco and offering tangible support, rather than rhetoric, for other energy rich but weak countries in the neighborhood who are now thinking twice about defying the Kremlin.

John McCain might just benefit, too. Scenes of Russian bomb craters near Georgia’s Caspian pipeline have given fresh impetus to the “drill here” mantra—energy security means having more of it. Maybe even enough to usurp Russia’s growing energy dominance. Some observers are calling for a massive expansion of U.S. natural gas production so that America can become the liquified natural gas supplier to the rest of the world.
