New Zealand: "Major spring frosts" cause significant reduction in apple production

Apple production in the year ending 31 March 2009 is forecast to be well down on the previous year. This is due to the effect of major spring frosts in the Hawkes Bay. Early-flowering pipfruit varieties were badly damaged, with losses exceeding 30 percent of the total Hawkes Bay crop for Braeburn, Jazz and Pacific Beauty.
