Climate change sparks rare dispute among college trustees

Bravo, Peter Mallory
DAYTONA BEACH -- Despite vigorous opposition by three of its trustees, Daytona State College will collaborate with a Colorado nonprofit with expertise in energy efficiency.

In a rare contentious debate between trustees, with one calling others "wusses," the board voted 5-3 Thursday to allow the college to work with the Rocky Mountain Institute for what college officials dubbed a "climate change initiative."

College President Kent Sharples asked the board to accept a $1,500 grant from the institute and spend $3,000 to send three staff members to Colorado for training and technical assistance in planning energy savings. He said the college was not taking a position on the cause of global warming, but rather trying to save money by learning how to use less energy.

Trustee Peter Mallory, a New Smyrna Beach businessman and blogger, objected.

"I'm violently opposed to getting involved in all of this stuff," Mallory said. "I think this is a real crock."

And later: "I don't want us mixed up with those people."

He specifically quoted the institute's mission statement, which says, in part: "There is now overwhelming evidence that human activities are changing the world's climate."
College Trustees Fight Over Global Warming | Daytona State College News
That’s got to be the funniest line I’ve read this month.

“He called me a wuss! I don’t like being called a wuss!”

Talk about journalism at it’s finest.

Despite the wussiness, I support Mallory. There is no such thing as man-made global warming. As I wrote yesterday in Transcending Limiting Beliefs, environmentalism is the new shield of communism. The Earth is looking better than ever, and our carbon emissions are only 2% of nature’s volcano emissions. How dare we doubt her resilience? A warmer world would help us grow more crops, either way. 20 years ago we had orange groves around Daytona Beach, but now the hard freezes have pushed them south.

Daytona State should take a stand and stop this global warming nonsense in its tracks.
