Lemon powered global "warming" torch on way to Darwin - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
A new torch relay calling on the Australian Government to act on climate change is set to arrive at Darwin's Parliament House this morning.

The climate torch was created by the designers of the Sydney Olympic torch and incorporates wind and solar power as well as a battery made out of a lemon.

June 2008: Global cooling in both hemispheres hits lemon crop hard
The problems have been caused by an exceptional cold snap in Spain earlier this year, which wiped out most of its harvest of the verna variety of lemons – one of the most popular with British supermarkets.

This was followed by problems in the southern hemisphere. In Argentina, the biggest producer of lemons, the crop fell by 28 per cent after cold weather damaged hit the blossoming season.
