London waste collection needs to adapt to climate change
London needs about 300 more waste management facilities to cope with the effects of climate change, according to a consultation launched last week by mayor Boris Johnson.
The draft London Climate Change Adaptation Strategy highlighted that climate change might affect the type and quantity of waste the city produced, and suggested that collection services were also vulnerable to extreme weather conditions.
"The need to build about 300 more facilities provides the opportunity to locate and design these to be more resilient to extreme weather," the report concluded.
