Clearly, the fossil fuel era is at an end, and we’re watching its death throes, with oil company executives and their political vassals cast in the role of frustrated whale-oil procurers and salesmen. Because of the realities of global warming — the need not just to reduce industrial-scale carbon dioxide emissions but to eliminate them — the continued burning of oil, natural gas and coal for power represents slow global suicide, the equivalent of a late-stage cirrhosis patient drinking Wild Turkey.
