NCAR predicts hurricanes through 2055
Holland’s group has loaded its intertwined model on NCAR’s new supercomputer, nicknamed Bluefire. Researchers want to use the model to analyze the decade from 1995 to 2005, and then to predict what could happen between 2020 and 2030 and from 2045 to 2055 if globe-warming emissions of carbon dioxide continue to rise.
The computer is about halfway through the six months of calculations it will take to get all the data for the project. The computer, which can solve 76 trillion equations every second, will be working on the massive problem 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
With that much data, it will likely take researchers years to dig through all the results. But some preliminary findings will be available early next year.

Talk about wasting energy. This sort of calculation just uses up computer cycles to generate a meaningless number.
Computer masturbation. It will make someone happy, but really not accomplish anything.
