[Joe] Shuster argues that there's no other way out because the world will run dry of oil in about 30 years, out of natural gas in less than 50 and out of coal in 75. His solution: go 80 percent nuclear by 2040. Wind and solar energy sources can produce most of the rest, he says, but it's a pipe dream to think other alternatives can provide more than a fifth of the energy a generation from now.
Shuster laid out his plan this spring in his book, "Beyond Fossil Fools: The Roadmap to Energy Independence."
