Nobel Peace Prizes to Mother Teresa, Al Gore illegal: Lawyer
In his 1895 last will and testament, Nobel, a Swedish industrialist and philanthropist who invented dynamite, decreed that part of his vast fortune be used to create the awards that now carry his name, including the Nobel Peace Prize.
He asked that five members elected by the Norwegian parliament Norway and Sweden were joined in a union at the time -- select each year "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
