Plan for turbine is branded ridiculous [National Wind Watch]
A major supermarket chain wants to put up a 33ft wind turbine at its store in Kidderminster but the plan has been branded “ridiculous” by a businessman. It would be installed as part of Tesco’s £100 million energy saving scheme.
Plans have been submitted to the council.
But owner of Caldwell Castle in Castle Road, Richard Davies, said the whole idea of using a turbine was ludicrous as it would not generate enough power to make it worthwhile.
He also criticised the idea, saying the turbine, which would be yards from his home, would be an eyesore.
The Lord of the Manor, aged 56, said: “I think the idea is ridiculous. It will not generate enough power.
“I have a flag on top of my castle and that barely moves. It’s just tokenism by Tesco to say to the Government they are doing something. The structure does not blend in at all with its surroundings. It’s an eyesore in the sense it is not a wonderful sculpture that is being put up,” he added.
