Why not spend a lot of money and burn a lot of fossil fuel while breaking the "fragile" Arctic ice with a TV journalist?

Next summer the polar icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov plies the Bering and Chukchi Seas for "Arctic Odyssey: a Symposium on Global Warming & Climate Change." On this voyage into the Russian Arctic, ABC news veteran Sam Donaldson and a team of Arctic scientists lead an exploration of Russia's Siberian coast and remote outposts such as Cape Dezhnev and Wrangel Island. Throughout the trip, excursions by helicopter and Zodiac rafts will bring the peoples, wildlife and especially the changing landscapes of the Arctic into focus.
Slated for July 8-20, when temperatures should be in the high 40s to mid 50s, the expedition is priced at $17,995, including 10 nights aboard the vessel and two hotel nights in Anchorage, most meals, excursions and educational programs, as well as flights between Russia and Alaska. Airfare between home and Anchorage is additional.
