Jeff Nigbur with the Department of Public Safety said as of 10 p.m. Saturday, Highway 14 from Cedar City to Hatch was closed due to an eight-car pileup caused by heavy snow and high wind. Fred Pearce is a former news editor for the prestigious UK-based magazine New Scientist. He's now a frequent contributor for the magazine and works as an environment consultant. He's also the author of a newly released book Confessions of an Eco-Sinner: Tracking Down the Sources of my Stuff. As for Pearce's own carbon footprint, he confesses freely to an appalling trail equal to 22 tonnes. The amount of travel required to write the book were tantamount to circling the world seven times, as he criss-crossed the globe through Asia, Europe, South Asia and Africa and Australia from his London home.
