Utah - Storm brings early snow, closes roads
Winter weather swept into parts of Utah Saturday, bringing a small hint of what's to come later this season and causing problems for some motorists.

Jeff Nigbur with the Department of Public Safety said as of 10 p.m. Saturday, Highway 14 from Cedar City to Hatch was closed due to an eight-car pileup caused by heavy snow and high wind. He also said Interstate 84 in northern Utah was closed near the Idaho border, from milepost 242 to milepost 275, due to heavy snow and accidents.

Fred Pearce is a former news editor for the prestigious UK-based magazine New Scientist. He's now a frequent contributor for the magazine and works as an environment consultant. He's also the author of a newly released book Confessions of an Eco-Sinner: Tracking Down the Sources of my Stuff. When I found out he was going to be in Toronto, I jumped at the chance to meet a true investigative journalist: He'll dig -- literally and figuratively -- relentlessly until he gets to the truth.

As for Pearce's own carbon footprint, he confesses freely to an appalling trail equal to 22 tonnes. The amount of travel required to write the book were tantamount to circling the world seven times, as he criss-crossed the globe through Asia, Europe, South Asia and Africa and Australia from his London home.
