Wealthy Cambridge graduate dragged off to jail after she tried to storm Parliament in climate change protest
Twenty officers were originally dispatched to control the gathering. But shortly after the speeches the group, led by Miss Omond, pushed through steel barricades and forced police officers back across the road stopping rush hour traffic.
Pensioners and children were involved in the fracas which saw several people dragged away after falling to the ground.
Earlier Miss Omond had revealed that she had no fear of being imprisoned for what she described as 'her passionate belief'.
She said: 'I left my exam an hour and a half early today to get here on time. I'd be surprised if I've done well.
'I think it's fantastic how many people have turned up here today and it really does bring back images of the suffragettes who had to go to similar lengths 100 years ago to get their point across.
'I do not fear being locked up for this because we are only here to get our voice across peacefully.'
