While alarmists fear that slight warming will give them kidney stones, large numbers of Canadians spend their money on fossil-fueled vacations to hot places

Canadians Expected to Flock to Southern Holiday Spots Despite Economic Slowdown | CEP News
(CEP News) Ottawa - Canadians may have seen their retirement nest eggs eroded and the value of the loonie plunge in recent weeks, but neither development is expected to stop many of them from planning southern vacations once Old Man Winter turns his sights on the country, says a travel industry executive.

When it comes to getting away from winter for a few days, "Canadians see it almost as a God-given right," says Brad Miron, marketing vice-president for iTravel2000.com.

Granted, there has been some of what Miron calls "negativity" in the market this fall. But when the cold weather locks in - and that's something he says is "one of the few guarantees of life in Canada" - he says business will pick up.
...
Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Mexico "are always going to be Canadian favourites," Miron said, because they are generally seen as providing good value for money.
