Obama Says “We can’t solve global warming because I f—ing changed light bulbs in my house” « It’s Getting Hot In Here
He’s right of course. We can’t solve global warming without changing our leaders and not just our lightbulbs. So doesn't this mean that when it comes to global warming, little things DON'T make a big difference?

Yes. I think leaders have a far greater impact on global warming than peoples individual actions. I think anyone that voted for Obama can comfortably do whatever they want. No need to change light bulbs or switch to more efficient modes of transport. Leaders can make a huge difference through economic policies that cause reduced consumption and production, through cooling of the economy. Lower economic productivity results in lower overall consumption and damage to the environment. If people would stop throwing away their money on air conditioning and SUVs, they could dedicate those resources to those less fortunate in other suffering countries. In the end you have no air conditioning and have to ride a bus, but people half a world away will thank you, and so will mother nature.
Fuck the people half a world away. Our condition and the condition of those "suffering in other countries" has nothing to do with fortune. The kind of thinking you describe is completely divorced from reality.
The generations of Americans who came before us broke their asses in half working to build what we have. Our grandfathers walked into the teeth of machine guns to pass liberty onto us. We are dropping the ball here in a big way.
