Ethanol in gasoline is causing a lot of headaches, lost boating time, and serious engine repairs to boats since ethanol began being added to gas in Florida last spring. Fuel sold in Florida is supposed to contain no more than 10 percent ethanol, but Naples Boat Mart mechanics have tested fuel up to 22 percent ethanol.

Germany could lose more than 100,000 jobs if the European Union makes industries pay for pollution rights that are free at present, a press report said on Tuesday, citing an unpublished economy ministry report.

Increased costs stemming from reform of the EU's pollution rights policy would make 12 German industrial sectors less competitive, the daily Die Welt quoted the study as saying.

When indirect effects on subcontrators were factored in, almost 300,000 jobs could disappear by 2020, according to another study by the Muenster-based EEFA research institute.
