Jennifer Marohasy » Don’t Ditch Cattle Yet, Science Isn’t ‘Settled’
While Australian farmers have been told they should make a transition from cows to kangaroos to reduce their greenhouse gas emission, in particular emissions of methane, it is increasingly unclear that such a dramatic action, even if it was undertaken, would have any effect on global methane levels.
Maybe we need more climate realism at universities?
While congratulating the graduates, Professor Richard. C.Levin, President Yale University said,“ TERI University is unique not only in India but in the world as it has specialised courses in energy, environment and sustainable development. The collaboration between Yale and TERI University [Note that earlier in this press release from TERI, Dr. R.K. Pachauri is identified this way: Chancellor TERI University and Director-General TERI] that began four years ago has allowed for student and faculty exchange that has created a platform to exchange ideas, thoughts and knowledge. Universities like ours will play an significant role to curtail climate change by involving governments and companies to set standards of carbon emissions.”

He further stressed on the role of universities to advance the world towards a sustainable living like investing in research and development in sciences and sponsoring policy research on the science of climate change. Sponsoring new researches on alternative technologies that are eco-friendly and economically viable in nature in the university will help us in including these in our daily lives. Such universities will create future leaders and influential group that will work towards environment conservation and university complexes like TERI and Yale will demonstrate strong examples of reducing GHG that are economically possible. There is an urgent need of synthesis of economy, social forces and environment conservation that can be only brought about if students are sensitised and given knowledge about it.
