Professor wants governments to plan now for global warming
On Monday night, [Radley] Horton, an associate research scientist at Columbia University's Center for Climate Systems Research, was the first speaker in a series of talks at Cumberland County College on climate change and the state of estuaries.

Some areas of research are more uncertain than others.

For example, Horton said, models cannot really predict how severe storms will be in the future, but if the sea level rises over time as has been predicted, the northeasters and hurricanes the mid-Atlantic region experiences now will be even more devastating.

With hotter temperatures, the need for water to keep people hydrated increases. At the same time, the heat will evaporate the water supply more quickly.
