2008 - A TIPPING POINT?
It is now obvious that the recent global warming period has two components - a rise between 1980 and 1997-8 and a subsequent standstill.

It has been said that this was not unexpected and that nobody ever said there would be an ever increasing rise in temperature even as atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration increased. Ups and down were always part of the picture. Well, just look at the IPCC reports and find where they said that? Until mid 2007 many scientists refused to even countenance the idea that there could possibly be a standstill.
Weather News - Chilly night for Southern NSW
Southern NSW experienced an unseasonably chilly Monday night with temperatures up to eight degrees below average due to clear skies and a cool air mass moving in from the south.

In the southern tablelands Cooma and Taralga dropped down to two degrees, seven and eight degrees below average respectively. Goulburn fell to six degrees, six below average and the coldest December night in four years.
A Wintry chill grips Scotland
Temperatures in Scotland plummeted over the weekend, as much of the country was subjected to the coldest spell of the winter so far.

The lowest temperature recorded was -11C (12F) at Tulloch Bridge, east of Fort William on Saturday night. On Sunday, the temperature in Glasgow remained below -2C (28F) all day, making it the coldest November day here since 1985.[Via Where’s my Global Warming Dude?]
