Challenger Disaster Remembered Years Later - Orlando News Story - WESH Orlando
The cold had caused rubber-like seals in the shuttle's booster rockets to shrink causing a chain reaction that burst the ship's main fuel tank.A Climate of Polarization - O'Reilly Radar
Cold weather raises big red flags even at last week's practice countdown.
"The launch director did say had this been the real launch day we would've had to scrub because the temperature was below 36 degrees," NASA representative, Allard Beutel, said.
NASA has a complex set of weather rules now that makes 36 degrees the lowest temperature allowable to launch.
In the booster rockets where they had the problem with the Challenger there are now heaters to make sure those seals don't get too cold and that the launch can be safe and successful.
On the climate issue, there are some impossible levers to contend with;
1. Introducing any doubt into the climate debate stops any action that might combat our human impact.
2. Introducing "certainty" undermines our scientific method and its philosophy.
