Coal plant becomes issue in Va Gov. race - wtop.com
Brian Moran, one of the three Democrats running for governor has taken a firm stand against a proposed $6 billion coal fired power plant proposed for Surry County not too far from the heavily populated Richmond and Hampton Roads regions.

Moran, who is from Alexandria, says the plant, which could produce as much as 1.5 million gigawatts of power, would also increase pollutants in the Chesapeake Bay and contribute to global warming.

"We've become so accustomed to reliable energy" he tells WTOP. But he says "people have to be concerned where that energy is coming from. It should not be coming from a new massive coal fired power plant."
