Drawing electricity from the power grid simply moves emissions from one's car to a distant -- and out of mind -- power plant in someone else's community.

Conversions may make people feel good, but they don't solve the problem.

Vienna, Austria - New research suggests that ambitious plans for dozens of new ski resorts in Central and Eastern Europe could be constructed on slippery financial slopes, a worldwide environmental organization warned on Tuesday.
The potential financial uncertainty and the future viability of the resorts is also adding to environmentalists' concerns that some of Europe’s last wilderness areas will be damaged to little purpose, says the Danube-Carpathian program of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), based in Vienna.
