One key reason why the Dongtan eco-project fell out of political favour was that its main sponsor, Chen Liangyu, Shanghai’s former Communist Party Secretary and a Politburo member, was arrested on fraud and corruption charges in September 2006, and later sentenced to 18 years imprisonment. Chen’s downfall has tainted the entire project, and the current Shanghai government now appears unwilling to support Dongtan...

The National Weather Service reported the Monroe area picked up at least 1.5 inches during the day. Snowfall began again around 8 p.m. and was expected to leave up to 2 inches more on the ground.
Saturday's low temperature sunk to minus 18, shattering a record for the fourth day in a row. The previous record low was minus 15 set in 1982.
