The extravaganza told the story of a naughty tiger trying to lure some children into its trap while lighting up the castle and the night sky above it with fireworks and huge flames.
Stalls selling hot drinks and food were doing a roaring trade as people tried to stay warm while enjoying the show.
Philippa Williams, 45, from Penarth, brought along a flask of hot chocolate to enjoy with her husband Steve, 45, and their daughter Katie, nine. Their son Michael, 14, opted to break with family tradition by keeping warm at home instead.
“We come here every year but it’s not usually this cold,” said Philippa as she sipped her drink.
“It’s fairly busy but I would say there’s not quite as many people as there usually are. It is freezing though.
