Personally, I'd be happier if Henri could make it a little warmer than -20 here. It's funny how temperature fluctuations have a pattern. It's funnier that people like Waxman don't seem to notice the temperature. Must be that bubble Reps live in that keeps him warm.

Missing Earth balloon deflates Greenpeace global-warming rally

JUPITER — Anybody see the planet Earth?

The environmental group Greenpeace today canceled plans to applaud President-elect Barack Obama's efforts to reduce global warming.

The reason: It says UPS lost the giant Earth balloon the group planned to stand next to at the event.

Greenpeace has been unable to locate the 20-foot inflatable balloon, which has been traveling the country as part of the group's public demonstrations. The balloon was scheduled to be on display in San Diego on Tuesday but it never arrived there.

Greenpeace organizers said they hoped UPS would find the planetary prop in time for them to set it up on Florida Atlantic University's Jupiter campus Friday. But there was still no sign of it this afternoon.

"We have the tracking number and everything," said Lauren Thorpe, a Greenpeace global warming field officer. "They just couldn't find it.
