SHELL LAKE – The weather reached a low of 34 below 0 in Washburn County last week, making it difficult for those living in northern Wisconsin to believe in the nationwide colloquialism, global warming.

John Magnuson, professor emeritus for the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for Limnology, said that though it may be hard, especially in this cold weather, to be a subscriber to global warming, there is definitely a difference in temperature between the current century and those past.
