Record low temperatures cover Michigan
MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) -- (01/14/09) -- It's cold -- arctic cold in fact. There's really no other way to describe it.

This latest blast has emergency room workers on alert for what could be a busier than normal couple of days.
...

This arctic air can also cause shortness of breath and damage the lungs. "Asthmatics and people with emphysema are certainly going to run the risk of worsening in this environment if they have to spend any time outside."

Over the next couple of days, Hurley's ER expects to treat plenty of patients hit hard by the cold. "We see it with people just falling on the ice, and they're on the ground waiting for EMS, and they get a low body temp in that period of time. It's very serious," explained Hurley ER physician Dr. Mark Dalton.
The Associated Press: Monaco's Prince Albert II visits South Pole
The prince, whose team included a doctor and his friend, South African adventurer Mike Horn, reached the Pole at 1947 GMT (2:47 p.m. EST) on Tuesday. Temperatures during the journey reached -40 F (-40 C).

Following a brief ceremony, the prince then visited a U.S. base near the Pole. The Amundsen-Scott base was one of 26 international bases the prince is expected to visit during his trip to Antarctica.

The prince has said his trip, which is to wrap up on Jan. 22, is aimed at raising awareness about global warming. The sovereign visited the North Pole in 2006.
The Prince shows us how to dress when it's "warm":
