Serious or spoof?

Is CO2 really a lethal poison for plants?: Ford Unveils Earth-friendly Dashboard » Coolest Gadgets
I suppose this is why Ford has come up with a new dashboard that literally shows you how earth-safe your driving is. Part of it has to do with measuring your fuel efficiency, which is not gauged by a meter or a number, but a picture of a vine.

Apparently, if your driving is fuel-efficient, the vine will start budding and blooming until it is healthy. However, if you are wasting gas, you will be forced to watch that vine shrivel up and die. Yes, it is odd to have a visual cue instead of an exact scientific reading, but I guess we consumers have been trained to react to pictures instead of raw data.

Assuming that the growing thing in this display is actually a plant it really is a very bizarre gadget indeed since the vine will grow better with more carbon dioxide rather than less!

speaking of "raw data", California Brown Pelicans may be victims of frostbite.
At the International Bird Rescue Research Center in Fairfield, veterinarians and volunteers are nursing dozens of endangered California brown pelicans suffering from a mystery illness that has left them weak and disoriented.
The rescue center normally sees only a handful of the majestic pelicans this time of year. They're usually young, weakened because they're still learning to hunt and compete for food. But most of the new patients this week are adults.
Official suspect pelicans may have simply stayed in Oregon too long and got caught in a winter storm. This would explain the skin injuries seen on many.
60 percent to 65 percent of the pelicans have dead and blackened skin on their feet and feeding pouches. Such tissue damage is consistent with frostbite.
