Wind Watch: Down-to-earth reason for wind turbine failure
I am at present making representation to our local council, Fenland District Council, on behalf of the residents of Whittlesea, Cambridgeshire, about the dangerous situation of ice shedding from a nearby wind turbine, so it was of interest to me to learn about the Conisholme incident.Wind Watch: With windmills, W.Va. will be majestic no more
As with many wind turbines, the build-up of ice on blades is of concern. One possible reason for a blade to detach is ice formation that is not uniform, in other words as with the wheel of a car, the blades become unbalanced and less stable leading to possible blade detachment.
But, sadly this is about to change. Windmills will be in those hills. They will be and already are like a blight spreading and destroying our natural beauty. At least, a blight would leave the natural contour of the land, but windmills do not. Drive our country roads from two of our finest state parks and you can see windmills on the horizon. "I'm not saying you can't do it," Bodman said of Obama's goal. "It depends on how much money you spend. We have spent a lot of money, but could you spend even more and can you throw more (government) money at it? You could. I don't think it's wise myself, because I think we're spending about at the rate which makes sense."
