Climate Research News » Nature Commentary on Silencing Scientists
A commentary in the journal Nature (12/02/09) concludes with the following paragraph:
When scientists are silenced by colleagues, administrators, editors and funders who think
that simply asking certain questions is inappropriate, the process begins to resemble religion rather than science. Under such a regime, we risk losing a generation of desperately needed research.
Unfortunately, it apparently is only meant to apply to scientific inquiry about race and IQ, but it could equally apply to the current unacceptable climate science situation.
Coming Clean With Solar Woes
Last year was the year that alternative energy was set to take the world over. High energy prices and election promises made green energy look like it had unlimited growth. Then came the massive drop in energy prices. Then came the recession. Then came the lack of credit. Combine all that with lower stock valuations and this is looking like solar companies will get hit with a wave of rolling blackouts.
John Christy Debates William Schlesinger | GlobalWarming.org
My colleague at the Locke Foundation, vice president for research (and debate timekeeper) Roy Cordato, had a much stronger take with which I agree, as you might expect:
Schlesinger said that he was not going to discuss the science. He then went directly to rattling off scary scenarios about the future. So about two thirds of his talk was scare mongering with no actual defense of the hypothesis that human induced catastrophic global warming is in the process of occurring. What is interesting is that in “skipping over the science” he flipped through a number of slides that he had prepared to use including the now infamous and discredited “hockey stick” graph showing 900 years of no climate change and the last 100 years of dramatic warming.
