According to a search of 22,000 academic journals, Auer has not published any research articles in peer-reviewed journals in 10 years, the last being in April 1997.
August H. (Augie) Auer Jr (10 June 1940 - 10 June 2007[1]) was an atmospheric scientist and meteorologist in New Zealand.

I take it his other excuse was that he retired in 1998, which would explain why he stopped publishing papers in 1997.
