Waller Blog | Stimulus Compromise Trims Green Efforts
Big news of the weekend? A coalition of Democrats and some Republican U.S. senators reached a compromise on the stimulus package. Several cuts were made to the $800 billion-plus economic recovery package. One of the cuts was for the federal “green building” program, or a program for energy-efficient federal buildings, which was cut by $2 billion from $7 to $5 billion. An additional cut was made to proposed federal fleet of hybrid vehicles, which was cut from $300 million to $600 million, and to the federal Superfund pollution clean-up program, cut from $200 million to $600 million.

Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, politicians and campaigners have demanded that the DUP's Sammy Wilson be sacked after the environment minister blocked a government advertisement campaign on climate change saying the adverts were part of an "insidious propaganda campaign"....
