1991: We recently thought that global warming was no big deal, but now we know it's catastrophic

I found some interesting stuff in our old hardcopy of 1991's "Wildlife Fact File".

From card 17, "Save the Atmosphere":
Though scientists have known that global warming has been increasing over the last century, they thought that the change would be gradual. But it was recently discovered that the atmosphere can change quickly, and it is believed that climatic conditions have already been altered.
...
If the earth warms up and icecaps begin to melt as predicted, the sea level will rise five feet by the year 2030.
...
Eat less meat, particularly hamburgers.  Fast food chains are contributing to deforestation in South America by purchasing land on which to raise cattle. The hamburgers' packaging also contains CFCs.
From card 28, "Conserving Fossil Fuels":
Alternative power sources can help. But to avoid a severe drop in our standard of living, we still need fossil fuels or nuclear energy.
...
At the present rate of use, gas supplies should last for about 200 years and coal for 3,000 years.
...
By the year 2000 California should obtain 20 percent of its energy from the wind.
...
At current rates of consumption, by the year 2000 some 2.4 billion people may endure substantial hardships due to a shortage of wood.
