And that's saying something: Here's one of the least coherent alarmist articles of the year
Birds are dying by the multitudes due to trash they eat that then stay inside their stomachs; the birds then starve to death as they cannot digest what is in their stomachs. Across the globe, in places surrounded by ocean currents, we are getting a toilet bowl effect and the water has become like plastic soup. Some criticisms of the Belem Ecosocialist Declaration : Climate and Capitalism
As an ecosocialist focused on climate change, I totally agree with the general orientation of this document: denunciation of capitalist growth, productivism, and capitalist strategies to cope with global warming. Among other points, the link with the indigenous peoples, their culture and their struggles is especially important, in my view.Energy Conservation — National Geographic Magazine
But the declaration lacks some key aspects, on the one hand, while some precise statements are clumsy or wrong, on the other hand.
My main remark is that an ecosocialist declaration should absolutely link the climate crisis to the worst and deepest business crisis since 1929. This is a key condition if we want to get some influence among the workers and the poor in general.
Scientists have reported recently that the world is heating up even faster than predicted only a few years ago, and that the consequences could be severe if we don't keep reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that are trapping heat in our atmosphere.
