Fairbanks | Ice Alaska carvers dig out of record snowfall in time for their day of judgment
Zhe An, a competitor from China, said the snow storm was relentless.Debate on climate change isn't over
“The snow kept falling,” Zhe An said, using a translator. “So much snow is difficult.”
“We kept losing tools,” said Cillian Barrett, a carver from Anchorage. “In 10 minutes, your tools would be buried.”
Johnny Patton of Arkansas said the snow would shroud the sculptures as the carvers tried to work.
“We had to sweep it off and clean it up,” he said.
Gauvin, the Ice Park spokeswoman, said volunteers used metal detectors to assist the carvers in finding their snow-covered tools.
The storm was one of the biggest to hit Fairbanks in the last 40 years.
The Conference is being hosted by The Heartland Institute. Dan Miller is the director of public relations at Heartland.YouTube - Fox News: Split-Opinions On Global Warming: One speaker calls it "the biggest hoax of our lifetime"
"What we are trying to accomplish with this conference is to present to the politicians and to the public that the debate is not over about global warming or climate change; that there is plenty of room for disagreement; and that sound science shows that the earth is not warming," says Miller.
"For much of the latter part of the 20th century there's been a mild warming as we come out of an ice age -- but the planet today is much cooler than it was a thousand years ago."
