Industrialized nations called to lead in UN climate talks - Summary : Environment
Many industrialized nations are hoping to tweak their domestic economies as little as possible, perhaps by using compensatory projects, such as rain forest preservation, to help them meet targets.

Obama's climate advisor, Todd Stern, speaking Sunday in Bonn, said the United States was ready "for real action," but added that all big players needed to be on board with concrete steps.

Stern said the U.S. position will be guided by whatever deal Obama can strike with Congress on domestic legislation.

"I do not think that it is realistic to believe that we will then be able to then go into an international setting and get a higher number than that," he said.
