It's now hundreds of years after the dawn of the Industrial Revolution; has CO2 killed off the maple syrup industry yet?
...with the recent cold weather, maple producers in Lewis County and other high-elevation areas are still going. Sap runs best when lows are about 20 degrees Fahrenheit and highs about 40 degrees.

"Most producers are very happy with their crop," said Mary Jean Packer, executive director of New York State Maple Producers Association.

We came near system failure during the cold snap last January. Is anyone thinking about this? How about a regional contingency plan? Does our state emergency response agency, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, have a contingency plan for a big freeze-up in Anchorage? We need to know.
